Una de las principales diferencias entre Flowers in the Dirt y Off the Ground es el sonido más directo y menos distorsionado de este último. Otro de los principales cambios es la mayor preocupación de McCartney por las causas sociales, patentes en el álbum con las canciones "Looking For Changes", la cual critica la crueldad con los animales, o "Hope Of Deliverance" y "C'Mon People", que abogan por un mundo mejor. "Hope of Deliverance" fue escogida para promocionar el álbum como single, siendo editado en diciembre de 1992, dos meses antes de la edición de Off the Ground. Aunque el disco alcanzó el puesto #5 en el Reino Unido y el #17 en Estados Unidos, donde fue certificado como disco de platino, es el primer álbum que no produce un éxito destacable en las listas estadounidenses desde Wild Life en 1971. "Hope Of Deliverance" alcanzaría el puesto #18 en el Reino Unido, mientras el single "C'Mon People", editado con posterioridad, no entraría en listas. Pocas semanas después de la publicación del álbum, McCartney se embarcó en la gira The New World Tour, dando lugar a exitosos conciertos que se repetirían a escala global durante el verano.
