On 29 December 2003, Ofcom inherited the duties that had previously been the responsibility of five regulatory bodies: the Broadcasting Standards Commission, the Independent Television Commission, the Office of Telecommunications (Oftel), the Radio Authority, and the Radiocommunications Agency.
