- O.O.O.D. (also known as Out Of Our Depth) are a Goa trance project from England. Formed in Oxford in 1994 by Colin Bennun, Nigel Bradbury and Stephen Callaghan. Currently based mainly in Bristol its members are Colin Bennun, Stephen Callaghan, Ryo Potier and Ramsay Melhuish. For a while the same line-up also wrote, performed and released non-trance music under the name Unconscious Collective, although both sides of the band's output now falls under the OOOD moniker. Prior to the band's formation, Colin Bennun had already released a solo track under the name Faction on Phantasm Records' first compilation "Hard Trance and Psychedelic Techno", an album which has been referred to as "a reference for the start of the goa movement". OOOD subsequently had interest from Dragonfly Records early in their career, and mixed two tracks at the label's studio before ultimately releasing their first EP on Phantasm Records in 1995. OOOD's first album release 'aLIVE' is believed to be the first live album released as a debut by a band of this kind, and in 1997 they were the subject of a four-page article and interview in Wax Magazine, a national music publication. Having previously worked with artists including Kris Weston, Nigel Bradbury was the designer of the Mutator analog filter unit and whilst a member of OOOD, helped form the company Mutronics to manufacture the device, which was reviewed by Paul Nagle in Sound on Sound magazine. In contrast to the overwhelming majority of 'laptop live' acts working in this genre, OOOD's live performances are notable for including live guitar, keyboards and full drum-kit, and the band has performed either live or as DJs across the world, including Japan, Europe, South Africa, India, East Asia, Russia, Israel and the USA. Colin Bennun also records as part of 'Voice of Cod' (with Andrew Humphries) and 'Benefactor' (with Organic Records label boss Chris Organic), and has also mastered tracks and albums for other artists and record labels including Zenon Records. He works as a peripatetic and private music technology tutor and is a regular contributor to the music production section of the Isratrance. com forum, and is a moderator of the UK's main psy/goa trance forum Psymusic. co. uk. He's also got a well nice bum.
