Nigel Clive Cosby Trench, 7th Baron Ashtown, KCMG, is a former British diplomat. He succeeded a cousin as the 7th Baron Ashtown in 1990. Trench was educated at Eton College and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. A major in the King's Royal Rifle Corps during World War II, after the war Nigel Trench spent thirty years in the Foreign Service of the United Kingdom, eventually serving as Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (1969-1971) and to Portugal (1974-1976).

His wife died in 1994 and Lord Ashtown then married Dorothea Mary Elizabeth Minchin, former wife of Hans Heinrich XVII, 4th Fürst von Pleß, in 1997.
