Nicolae Cajal was a Romanian Jewish physician, academic, politician, and philanthropist. He was President of the Jewish Communities' Federation of Romania from 1994 to his death. Cajal held a Ph.D. in virology and chaired the Ştefan S. Nicolau Virology Research Center in Bucharest for years. He was a member of the Romanian Academy, the Romanian Medical Sciences Academy, the British Royal Society of Medicine, and the New York Academy of Sciences.

A fost Membru al Academiei de Ştiinte din New York; Doctor Honoris Causa al Universităţilor din Oradea (1994), Timişoara (1995), Cluj (1995), Iaşi (1996).
