Nel 1994 prima della pubblicazione di Welcome to Sky Valley lascia i Kyuss. Dopo aver lasciato i Kyuss, collabora per breve tempo con il gruppo punk dei Dwarves, con il nomignolo di Rex Everything. Con loro inciderà il disco The Dwarves are Young and Good Looking del 1997. Nello stesso anno forma i Mondo Generator, gruppo al quale ha cambiato successivamente il nome in Nick Oliveri and the Mondo Generator. Entrou no Kyuss em 1990 e ficou até o lançamento do álbum Blues for the Red Sun de 1992, quando resolveu sair da banda. Ficou tocando com a banda punk The Dwarves até que foi chamado por Josh Homme para montar uma banda conjunta, pois o Kyuss tinha acabado. Juntos montam o Queens of the Stone Age e monta seu projeto batizado com uma música do finado Kyuss, Mondo Generator. O músico ficou até o album Songs for the Deaf na banda e saiu por motivos indefinidos. Logo que saiu da banda, participou do álbum Dwarves Must Die, dos The Dwarves e da banda cult Yellow #5.
