Ausgiebige Tourneen in Südostasien folgten. 1998 übernahm Tse seine erste Filmaufgabe mit der Rolle des jungen Chan Ho-Nam in Young and Dangerous: The Prequel neben Sam Lee, Shu Qi und Daniel Wu. Für seine Darbietung wurde Nicholas Tse 1999 bei den Hong Kong Film Awards als Bester Nachwuchsschauspieler geehrt. Weitere Filmaufgaben folgten. Nicholas Tse ist mit der Schauspielerin Cecilia Cheung verheiratet. Das Paar hat einen gemeinsamen Sohn.
