Nicholas Nickleby; or, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby is a comic novel by Charles Dickens. Originally published as a serial from 1838 to 1839, it was Dickens' third novel. The lengthy novel centres around the life and adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, a young man who must support his mother and sister after his father dies. Come usa spesso Dickens la storia si svolge in un tempo contemporaneo all'autore, la maggior parte delle scene si svolgono a Londra e alcune a Portsmouth. Il tono della narrazione è ironicamente critica, volta a sottolineare ciò che lui interpreta come ingiustizie sociali. Sebbene Nicholas Nickleby sia un romanzo scritto in contemporanea con il più celebre Oliver Twist e composto con una gravità minore rispetto a quello, conserva comunque la qualità di essere altrettanto commovente e significativo.
