AOL announced that it discontinued Netscape and would cease support on February 1, 2008, however this was pushed back, and support for all Netscape browsers and client products was terminated on March 1, 2008.

  • Netscapeシリーズ（ネットスケープ シリーズ）とは、ジム・クラークとNCSA Mosaicの開発を抜けたマーク・アンドリーセン、ジェイミー・ザヴィンスキーらによって開発されたネットスケープコミュニケーションズのウェブブラウザであるNetscape Navigator（開発コードネームがMozillaであったため、「Netscapeと書いてMozillaと読む」などといわれた。日本語での俗称は、NN、ネスケ）を起源とするウェブブラウザシリーズのこと。 Netscape Navigatorのバージョン4以降は、Netscape Navigator単体での配布以外に電子メールクライアント、ウェブページ作成ソフトなどをまとめたNetscape Communicator（ネットスケープ・コミュニケーター）としても配布されるようになった。なお、Netscape Communicatorはバージョン6から名前がNetscapeに変更され、同時に旧版のNetscape Navigatorも名称をNavigatorに変更されている。またバージョン8では名称がNetscape Browserへと変更されたが、あまり認知されなかったためか、バージョン9では再びNetscape Navigatorとなった。ただし6,7、時折8も初期版の名称"Netscape Navigator"で呼ぶユーザーが存在していた。 セキュリティーホールの修正は、修正パッチが配布されるInternet Explorerに対し、Netscape Navigatorはバージョンアップすることで対応していた。
