  • Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) is a top South African tertiary education institution with its main administration in the coastal city of Port Elizabeth, which is the watersport capital of africa. Port Elizabeth is the 5th most populous and 5th largest city in South Africa, after Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Pretoria. NMMU formed in January 2005 through the merger of the University of Port Elizabeth, the Port Elizabeth Technikon and the Port Elizabeth campus of Vista University. It is an internationalised university with an International Student body of over 3000, from all over the world, including The United States, France, China, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom and many other countries. NMMU is overally ranked as the 8th best university in Africa, though some courses like accounting are consistently ranked as 2nd best. NMMU brings together technikon-type and university-type education. The University has six campuses - five in Port Elizabeth and one in the Western Cape town of George. The main campus is the Summerstrand South Campus, which is a modern, clean and safe campus. It also boasts a towering 19-storey administration building. Students at NMMU can study towards diplomas and degrees up to and including doctoral level qualifications. Qualifications are offered in the Faculties of Arts, Business & Economic Sciences, Education, Engineering; the Built Environment & Information Technology, Health Sciences, Law and Science. A number of courses include workplace experience as part of the curriculum.
