- NeXTstation was a high-end workstation computer developed, manufactured and sold by NeXT from 1990 until 1993. It ran the NeXTSTEP operating system. The NeXTstation was released as a more affordable alternative to the NeXTcube at about US $4,995 or about half the price. Several models were produced, including the NeXTstation (25 MHz), NeXTstation Turbo (33 MHz), NeXTstation Color (25 MHz) and NeXTstation Turbo Color (33 MHz). In total, NeXT sold about 50,000 computers, making the NeXTstation today a rarity as many units have since stopped working. The NeXTstation came with a NeXT MegaPixel 17" monitor and a keyboard and mouse. It was affectionately known as "the slab", since the flat shape contrasted quite sharply with the original NeXT Computer (otherwise known as "the cube").

Des Weiteren verfügten alle Modelle über 8 MB Arbeitsspeicher, der auf bis zu 32 MB ausgebaut werden konnte, eine SCSI-Festplatte mit einer Kapazität von 105 MB sowie ein Diskettenlaufwerk und einen Ethernetanschluss (10Base-T und 10Base-2). Die normale Monochromversion der NeXTstation kostete bei Erscheinen, mit 17"-Monitor, etwa 10.000 DM bzw. $4995. Ausgeliefert wurde die NeXTstation mit NeXTStep 2.0, es liefen jedoch auch die späteren Versionen wie 3.0 oder 3.3 problemlos darauf. Auch der NeXTStep-Nachfolger OPENSTEP lief bis Version 4.2 auf der NeXTstation. Als Alternative kann auf der NeXTstation auch NetBSD installiert werden.

La NeXTStation était une mise à jour du NeXTCube, plus abordable. Plusieurs modèles furent proposés : NeXTStation : monochrome, 25 Mhz NeXTStation Turbo : monochrome, 33 Mhz NeXTStation Color : couleur, 25 Mhz NeXTStation Turbo Color : couleur, 33 Mhz, la dernière de la série. Au total, NeXT a produit environ 50 000 de ces machines. Les NeXTStations étaient livrées, selon les modèles, avec un moniteur monochrome noir et blanc, le MegaPixel 17 pouces, ou un moniteur couleur 17 pouces, le Fimi. Ce dernier dispose d'une connectique 13W3, permettant d'utiliser des moniteurs Sun, SGI, dotés de la même connectique et disposant de la synchronisation sur le vert. Les NeXTStations couleurs ont besoin d'un périphérique externe pour produire le son et connecter clavier et souris, la SoundBox. Enfin, sur certains modèles, il est possible d'utiliser des claviers et souris ADB d'origine Apple. Sur les autres, même si le connecteur est identique, il n'y a pas compatibilité. Les NeXStations sont souvent nommées Slab, ou NSlab.
