National School were an alternative pop duo based in Oxford, England, featuring Joe Tucker (keyboard and vocals) and Ruth Smith (drums and vocals). The band began as a solo project of Tucker's, under the name Vegetables in 2003. Tucker had previously been a member of a number of bands, including Honey Shop Screamers and Victor FME. Smith joined as a drummer in 2005, and the name was changed in early 2006.
