Der Reiz für die Drehbuchautoren lag oftmals darin, dass sie bei Buffy ihren Episoden einen eigenen Stempel aufdrücken durften. So sind zum Beispiel besonders lustige Folgen meist von Jane Espenson. Bei vielen Kritikern galten die Serien als eine der bestgeschriebensten Fernsehsendungen überhaupt. So bekam fast jeder der Autoren nach dem Ende der Serien direkt neue Aufgaben. Auch unter den Schauspielern wurde oftmals ausgetauscht, z. B. in den Crossovers der zusammengehörenden Serien Buffy und Angel.
