- Music Week is a trade paper for the UK record industry. Founded in 1959 as Record Retailer, it was relaunched on 18 March 1972 as Music Week . On 17 January 17 1981 the title was again changed, owing to the increasing importance of sell-through videos, to Music & Video Week. The rival title Record Business, founded in 1978 by Brian Mulligan and Norman Garrod, was absorbed into Music Week in February 1983. Later that year, the offshoot magazine Video Week was launched and the title of the parent publication reverted to Music Week . Since April 1991, Music Week has incorporated Record Mirror, initially as a 4 or 8-page chart supplement, later as a specialist dance supplement featuring articles, reviews and charts. In the 1990s, several magazines and newsletters become part of the Music Week family: Music Business International (MBI), Promo, MIRO Future Hits, Tours Report, Fono, Green Sheet, Charts+Plus (published from May 1991 to November 1994), and Hit Music (September 1992 to May 2001). By May 2001 all newsletters (except Promo) ceased publication. In 2003, Music Week relaunched its website, offering daily news, features, record release listings and UK sales, airplay and club charts. In early 2006, a separate free-to-access site was launched for the Music Week Directory giving users access to around 10,000 contacts from across the UK music industry. In mid-2007, the magazine was given a facelift and redesigned by London-based design company This Is Real Art. In October 2008 another redesign lead to major changes to the magazine.

Depuis avril 1991, le Music Week a intégré le Record Mirror, au début comme un supplément classement de 4 à 8 pages, plus tard comme un supplément spécialisé dans la Dance accompagné d'articles, de critiques et de classements. Dans les années 90, beaucoup de magazines et de lettres d'informations ont intégré la famille Music Week: Music Business International (MBI), Promo, MIRO Future Hits, Tours Report, Fono, Green Sheet, Charts+Plus (publié de mai 1991 à novembre 1994), and Hit Music (de septembre 1992 à mai 2001). Vers mai 2001 toutes les lettres d'information (à part Promo) cessent d'être publiée. En 2003, Music Week relance son site internet qui offre des actualités quotidiennes, des reportages, les listes des sorties et des ventes des disques au Royaume-Uni, les classement de rotations radios et de rotations en clubs. Début 2006, un site séparé à accès libre est lancé pour le directoire de Music Week qui donne accès aux utilisateurs à environ 10 000 contacts de l'industrie musicale au Royaume-Uni. Milieu 2007, le magazine s'est offert un rafraîchissement et une reconception par l'agence de design basée à Londres This Is Real Art. En octobre 2008 un autre remaniement amène des changements majeurs dans le magazine.

O estado do Reino Unido, formado por quatro nações, é o segundo mercado fonográfico do Ocidente. A Official UK Charts Company, pertencente à associação do comércio e indústria da música Britânica, British Phonographic Industry (BPI), é responsável pela elaboração das listas publicadas na revista. Para a formatação das relações dos produtos mais populares são consideradas vendas de varejo do produto físico e virtual. A execução em rádio é contabilizada mas não integra a base de dados das listas principais de compactos e álbuns, compondo uma classificação à parte. A British Phonographic Industry (BPI) foi fundada em 1973 e também é responsável pela mais conceituada premiação musical do Reino Unido, o Brit Awards. Music Week website
