MusicBrainz Picard is a cross-platform MusicBrainz tag editor written in Python. Picard is intended to be the next generation of tagger for MusicBrainz, with a focus on album-oriented (as opposed to track-based) tagging and cross platform compatibility. Since version 0.7.0, MusicBrainz Picard supports automatic identifying of audio files through the MusicDNS service using the Open Fingerprint Architecture acoustic fingerprinting technology.

  • MusicBrainz Picard ist ein freies plattformübergreifendes Anwenderprogramm für die MusicBrainz-Datenbank, geschrieben in Python. Mit ihm können die passenden Metadaten zu lokalen Musikdateien aus der Internetdatenbank geladen werden oder – falls noch keine passenden Datensätze vorhanden sind – solche auch selbst ausgefüllt und hochgeladen werden. Der Schwerpunkt dieses momentanen Referenzprogramms für den MusicBrainz-Dienst sind die Alben-orientierte Arbeitsweise und die plattformübergreifende Verfügbarkeit. Zum Auffinden der passenden Datensätze werden vorhandene Metadaten oder seit Version 0.7 auch sogenannte akustische Fingerabdrücke erstellt und abgeglichen. Für Mac OS X ist die Erkennung über akustische Fingerabdrücke derzeit noch nicht verfügbar. Für die Version 0.9 wurde Picard komplett neugeschrieben. Er hat ein neues release-orientiertes Interface und benutzt nun Qt, was es vereinfachte, plattformübergreifend zu entwickeln. Unterstützt werden die Metadatenformate ID3-Tags Vorbis comments APE-Tags MP4 Windows Media Audio Als akustischen Fingerabdrücke werden die Portable Uniquie IDentifiers (PUIDs) benutzt. Ein Musikstück in einem der unterstützen Formate muss einmalig mit der MusicDNS-Software analysiert werden, um eine PUID zu erzeugen und auf den PUID-Server hochzuladen. Danach können weltweit alle Formate dieses Stücks dann dieser PUID und damit auch einem Datenbankeintrag in MusicBrainz zugeordnet werden.
