He was the star of Amores Possíveis (2001) (Possible Loves) which won the Jury award for Latin American cinema at the Sundance Film Festival. More recently he starred in O Homem do Ano (2003) (Man of the Year). With the actress Alessandra Negrini he had son named Antônio and, with the actress Giovanna Antonelli, a son named Pietro. He is quoted for saying that Charlie Chaplin inspired him as a young boy to be an actor.
