Mozilla Prism (previously known as WebRunner) is a product in development which integrates web applications with the desktop, allowing web applications to be launched from the desktop and configured independently of the default web browser. Prism is based on a concept called Site-Specific Browsers (SSB). An SSB is designed to work exclusively with a single web application. It doesn't have the menus, toolbars and other accoutrements of a traditional web browser.

The preview announcement of Prism was made in October 2007. The software is currently in its beta stage.

Prism ermöglicht es, die jeweiligen Webanwendungen direkt vom Desktop aus in eigenen vom Webbrowser getrennten Prozessen zu starten und unabhängig von diesem zu konfigurieren. Dabei wird ein abgespeckter Firefox gestartet, jedoch ohne die browsertypischen Bedienelemente und ohne das Menü. Mozilla beabsichtigt weitere Funktionalität wie 3D-Unterstützung hinzuzufügen. Die mit der Version 3 des Mozilla Firefox eingeführte Offline-Datenspeicherung ist auch in Prism verfügbar, wobei für jede Webanwendung, die mit Prism ausgeführt wird, ein eigener Speicher in Form einer SQLite-Datenbank bereitgestellt wird. Prism ist als eigenständiges Programm für Windows, Mac OS X und Linux erhältlich. Außerdem wird eine Firefox-Erweiterung bereitgestellt, die es ermöglicht, mit wenig Aufwand eine Webanwendung direkt bei deren Besuch mit Firefox für den Einsatz mit Prism einzurichten. Laut Mozilla Labs, welches das Projekt beherbergt, handelt es sich bisher um einen Prototypen. Die offizielle Ankündigung des Projekts erfolgte am 24. Oktober 2007, zu diesem Zeitpunkt war nur das eigenständige Programm unter der Versionsnummer 0.8 verfügbar. Derzeit (August 2009) ist die Version 1.0b2 aktuell.

- Prism is een programma dat ontwikkeld is door Mozilla Labs van de Mozilla Foundation. Het programma biedt de gebruiker de mogelijkheid om via een eenvoudig menu koppelingen te maken in het startmenu of het bureaublad die leiden naar een door de gebruiker vaak gebruikte webpagina en/of applicatie. Wanneer de gebruiker op de koppeling klikt, krijgt hij een gestripte versie zonder allerlei opties die men gewend is uit de klassieke webbrowsers. De gedachte hierachter is dat men niet wil gaan surfen, maar dat men direct op een functionele wijze die pagina krijgt waar men wil zijn. Bijvoorbeeld: wanneer men webmail wil bekijken, zoals Hotmail of Gmail, dan kan men deze net zoals andere e-mail gewoon in één klik benaderen. Op deze wijze wil men bij bepaalde webapplicaties het desktop-gevoel geven, alsof het programma's zijn die men benadert, omdat men deze bijvoorbeeld net zoals bij een echt programma vanuit het startmenu kan oproepen. Hoewel het nu ook al mogelijk is om snelkoppelingen te maken voor websites, poogt men door eenvoudige menu opties dit in een handomdraai voor elkaar te krijgen en zonder de onnodige extra opties die men tegenkomt in andere webbrowsers.
