Mosta (or Il-Mosta) is a town situated in the middle of the island of Malta, to the north-west of Valletta. It had a population of 19,018 people in 2010. Mosta celebrates the feast of Saint Mary the Assumption on the 15th August. This is a very popular feast among the Mostin and tourists alike. Mosta has many legends such as the Mosta Bride (L-Gharusa tal-Mosta) and a lot of historical places such as the Victoria Lines and Medieval chapels.

De koepel heeft een diameter van 39,6 meter en is daarmee de op drie na grootste koepel van Europa; de andere staan in Londen, Rome en Xewkija. Op 9 juni 1942 werd de Rotunda tijdens een mis geraakt door drie Duitse bommen. Twee bommen ketsten af van de koepel van de kerk en kwamen op straat terecht zonder te ontploffen. De derde bom viel door de koepel te midden van de 300 kerkgangers, maar ook deze bom ontplofte wonder boven wonder niet. Een replica van de bom wordt tentoongesteld in de sacristie van de kerk.

W Moście znajduje się Biuro Oddziału Świadków Jehowy sprawujące nadzór nad ponad 550 wyznawcami na wyspie.

Mosta est surtout connue pour son église, la Rotunda de St Marija Assunta, qui possède le troisième plus grand dôme du monde. Cette église faillit être détruite au cours de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, le 9 avril 1942 par une bombe des forces de l'Axe qui a percé le dôme mais n'a fort heureusement pas explosé. Le détonateur a été retiré et aujourd'hui, une réplique de la bombe y est exposée en souvenir de ce jour. On peut également y voir la tour Cumbo, qui fut au Moyen Âge la place forte de la ville et qui appartient de nos jours à la Contessa Preziosi, fille du défunt Barone della Quleja, de même que la chapelle Speranza, proche de la vallée du même nom. Construite au dix-huitième siècle, elle est au cœur de la légende voulant que pendant une invasion des turcs, une jeune fille et sa sœur s'occupant de moutons se sauvèrent des envahisseurs. Bien que la sœur put facilement s'échapper, la jeune fille, qui boîtait légèrement, dût se cacher dans une grotte qui se trouve sous la chapelle. Celle-ci pria Notre-Dame afin qu'elle la protège et celle-ci intervint immédiatement en dépêchant une araignée pour tisser une toile dans l'entrée de la grotte. Quand les turcs y arrivèrent, ils virent la grotte où la fille s'était réfugiée, mais n'y entrèrent pas pour la chercher, croyant qu'elle ne pouvait pas y être puisque la toile de l'araignée était intacte.
