Larson attended Cooper Union in New York City, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1907 and an Engineer's degree degree in 1910. He initially worked as an engineer. He was a member of New Jersey Senate from Middlesex County, New Jersey from 1922 through 1928. He was governor of New Jersey from 1929 through 1932.
