Founded in 1886, the College was originally called the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts and the first class contained 28 students, 26 of which were women. In 1910, the School of Fine Arts changed its name to the Minneapolis School of Art and moved to its present location in 1914. In 1970, the School became the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
