This new appointment was made in order to reflect the establishment of the Defence Equipment & Support organisation of the UK Ministry of Defence. Previously the procurement aspects of this appointment were carried out by a Minister of Defence Procurement (either at Minister of State or Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State level), and the logistics aspects by the Minister of State for the Armed Forces. Lord Drayson was succeeded by Ann Taylor, Baroness Taylor of Bolton in 2007, but, in the Brown reshuffle of October 2008, the post was down-graded to Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State level. The current Minister is Quentin Davies MP.
