A fine carriera si dedicò agli affari, ma venne coinvolto in caso di corruzione, nell'ormai Repubblica Ceca, per finanziamenti segreti ad un partito politico e per aver goduto di eccessive condizioni favorevoli durante la privatizzazione di un'acciaieria. In seguito a questi due eventi, Šrejber fu incarcerato ed il suo nome, nella Repubblica Ceca divenne sinonimo di corruzione politica.
