Michael Franti (born April 21, 1966, in Oakland, California) is an American poet, musician, and composer of African, Native American, Irish, French, and German descent. Franti is the creator and lead vocalist of Michael Franti & Spearhead, a band that blends hip hop with a variety of other styles including funk, reggae, jazz, folk, and rock. He is also an outspoken supporter for a wide spectrum of peace and social justice issues.

Franti continua a scrivere e cantare di AIDS, di senzatetto, di rapimenti, della brutalità della polizia e della pena di morte, dando voce ad un desiderio di pace e giustizia che prescinde dal colore della pelle. Franti quest'anno (2008) ha contribuito al cd Safari di Lorenzo Jovanotti Cherubini, cantando con lui il pezzo "Mani libere 2008". Successivamente nel "Safari Tour" è salito sul palco del Palazzetto dello sport di Roma cantando la canzone.
