With CBS Barkann has covered major events, including, in 1998, the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan; in 1994, the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway, as a speed skating reporter as Dan Jansen won a Gold Medal in the 1000m. 1992, Barkann was a reporter at the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France where he also covered the Dan Jansen story. Barkann is a former XFL commentator. He worked the UPN game telecasts. He has mentioned several times that he is not proud to have been a part of the XFL. Barkann's career also thoroughly involves the NCAA he has covered the Final Four and Fiesta Bowl for CBS as well as being a familiar face around Big 5 events and telecasts. Upon the death of John Marzano, a friend of Barkann's and a Comcast Sportsnet friend and analyst, who made his last TV appearance on Barkann's Daily News Live, Barkann stated, “John was one of those rare persons who put a smile on your face the moment you saw him. He was joyous and he was proud. " Michael read the eulogy at John Marzano's funeral and frequently brings him up to this day with the endearing memory of Johnny Marz. Barkann resides with his family in Newtown Square, PA.
