Mere Brow is the second largest village in the parish of Tarleton, the smallest being Holmes and Sollom. Like most villages in the area, it was primarily an agricultural village thanks to the excellent soil, although there was also noticeable fishing activity for many years. Production of flowers and vegetables is still common in the farms which surround the village. The facilities in the village and its environs include a pub, a primary school, a smithy, a village hall and the leisure lakes. The village Post Office was closed in 2008 and now people from the community have to go three miles to the village of Banks to get to another Post Office.
