The Mazda MX-6 was a front-wheel drive sporty coupé produced by Mazda between 1987 and 1997. It was called the Mazda Capella in Japan until 2002 before being renamed Mazda Atenza/Mazda6. The MX-6 was mechanically identical to the Mazda 626 and subsequently the Ford Probe. These cars shared the GD (1988–1992) and GE (1993–1997) platforms. The MX-6 replaced the 626 Coupé, although it continued to share the same chassis. Mazda shared the GD and GE chassis with Ford for their own Probe.

Mazda ta miała również zastąpić stary model Forda Probe i w przekonstruowanej wersji trafiać do sprzedaży w USA. Nadwozie samochodu było długie, zarówno z przodu jak i z tyłu zastosowano owalne lampy. Na tylnej klapie osadzono duży spojler (montowany seryjnie w modelu V6). Początkowo, sprzedaż jedynie w Japonii, źródłem napędu był silnik 1.8 o mocy 115 KM, ale później zwiększono jego pojemność do 2 litrów (bez zmiany mocy), a przez cały okres produkcji także widlasta szóstka o pojemności 2.5 litra (motor ten znany jest z 626 GE oraz Xedos 9 TA). MX-6 produkowano także w wersji 4WD - z napędem na cztery koła (w nadwoziu GD) i 4WS - wszystkie koła skrętne. Wnętrze urządzono poprawnie, wszak bez polotu (wszystko jest pod ręką), samochód jest przestronniejszy od MX-3. Na polskich drogach MX-6 rzadko kiedy się spotyka, najczęściej są to auta sprowadzone z Niemiec lub z USA. W roku 1997 wycofano MX-6 z produkcji. MX-6 jest uważany za jeden z najbardziej udanych modeli tej marki i przez wielu, zarówno użytkowników jak i dziennikarzy motoryzacyjnych, bardzo chwalony.
