It was designed by Hippolyte Blanc and building work was completed in 1875. Mayfield Salisbury Church is a product of the union between the (now demolished) Fountainhall Church, and Salisbury Church (which itself was the result of a merger between Mayfield Church and Salisbury Church).

The Chinese Evangelical Church in Edinburgh also meets in Mayfield Salisbury Church. The roll as at December 31 2004 was 750 with a further 45 on the Supplementary Roll. Since March 2006 Mayfield Salisbury Church has been organised under the Church of Scotland "Unitary" form of constitution, with a Kirk Session but without a congregational board.
