Matthew Stephen Leinart is an American football quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League. He played college football at Southern California, leading them to an AP national championship in 2003, a BCS national championship in 2004, and an appearance in the BCS National Championship game in 2005. Leinart earlier played quarterback at Mater Dei High School. In 2004, his junior year at USC, he won the Heisman Trophy.

Doch Leinart konnte die Trojans nicht noch einmal zum Sieg führen. Gegen die Texas Longhorns verlor Leinart seine zweite von 39 College-Partien. Leinart wurde im NFL Draft 2006 in der ersten Runde an zehnter Stelle von den Arizona Cardinals gezogen und spielt seither für diese Franchise in der NFL. In seiner Rookiesaison verdrängte er den damaligen Starting-Quarterback Kurt Warner und ist seither selbst Starting-Quarterback für die Arizona Cardinals. In der 2007er-Saison brach sich Leinart im vierten Saisonspiel das Schlüsselbein und konnte den Rest der Saison nicht mehr eingesetzt werden.
