Mathilda May (born Karima Mathilda Haïm, 8 February 1965, Paris) is a French film actress. May's father is playwright Victor Haïm, who is of Greek and Turkish descent. Her mother is Swedish ballet teacher and choreographer Margareta Haïm. May won the "Premier Prix du Conservatoire de Danse de Paris" (First Prize of the Paris Dance Conservatory) at age 16. In 1989, she won the Prix Romy Schneider. Her work is primarily in French for the European market.
