Maslak is in direct competition with the nearby Levent business district for new skyscraper projects, and the Istanbul subway network which previously ended at the "4. Levent" subway station has been extended to Maslak (Ayazağa) with a new station that entered service in January 2009, which will enhance the district's attractiveness for future projects and investments. At present, the tallest completed skyscraper in Maslak is the 38-floor Sun Plaza, while the tallest skyscraper under construction in Maslak (as well as Istanbul and the rest of Turkey) is the Diamond of Istanbul, which comprises three centrally-connected towers, the tallest of which will have 53 floors above ground and will reach a height of 270m. The Diamond of Istanbul will also be the first steel skyscraper in Turkey, where (as opposed to the situation in the United States) constructing with steel costs more than constructing with concrete. The reason for choosing steel was its relative strength in resisting earthquakes (Istanbul is located along a very active faultline), whereas concrete is more fire-resistant.

Semt içinde nüfus çalışma saatleri aralığında büyük bir oranda artar, onun dışında yerleşik nüfus pek seyrektir. Mecidiyeköy bölgesi de Maslak'a benzer fakat yerleşik nüfus aksine daha fazladır. İTÜ'nün ana yerleşkesi ve Harp Akademileri Maslak'ta bulunmaktadır. Uzatılmakta olan Taksim - 4. Levent metrosu Darüşşafaka'ya kadar uzanacaktır. Ayazağa Atatürk Oto Sanayi Sitesi'ne kadar olan kısmının açılışı 30 Ocak 2009 tarihinde gerçekleşmiştir. Şu an Maslak'taki en yüksek bina 38 katlı Sun Plaza binasıdır. Ancak şu an inşaat halinde olan İstanbul Elması 53 kat ve 280 metre yüksekliğe erişecek, tamamladığı tarihte hem İstanbul'un, hem Türkiye'nin en hem de Avrupa'nın yüksek Gökdeleni olma niteliğini kazanacaktır. Ancak Mecidiyeköy ve Levent'te Maslak'taki binalardan daha yüksek binalar vardır. Mecidiyeköy'deki Trump Towers, inşaat halindedir, 155metre ile Trump Towers 200 metre altında kaldığı için "uluslararası gökdelen" sınıfına giremeyecektir.
