Nach einer weiteren Umbenennung in Martha & the Vandellas hagelte es ab 1963 dann Hits. Nach einem schweren LSD-Trip 1968, der einen Nervenzusammenbruch zur Folge hatte, ließ der Erfolg der Vandellas merklich nach, und 1972 trennten sie sich schließlich. Als Motown dann seine Büros nach Los Angeles verlegte, verließ Reeves das Label und unterschrieb als Solo-Künstlerin bei MCA. Richard Perry produzierte ihr Solo-Debüt Martha Reeves, das 1974 erschien. Auf dem Album waren verschiedene Cover-Versionen von Songs aus den Bereichen Rock, Pop und Rhythm and Blues zu hören. Das Album floppte, wodurch sich Reeves' Persönlichkeits-Schwierigkeiten noch verstärkten. Erst nachdem sie 1977 Baptistin geworden war, ging es ihr wieder besser. Nachdem The Rest of My Life, das 1977 auf Arista erschien, und We Meet Again, im Folgejahr auf Fantasy veröffentlicht, ebenfalls keinen Erfolg hatten, gab Reeves ihre Solo-Karriere auf. In den 90ern startete sie eine kurzlebige Reunion der Vandellas mit Annette Beard und Rosalyn Ashford und tourte durch Großbritannien. 2004 erschien dann ein neues Solo-Album der Sängerin unter dem Titel Home to You, das bis auf zwei Songs nur Eigenkompositionen enthielt.
