Chapman also portrayed Chief Officer Henry Wilde in the 1997 film Titanic.

He had changed his name when he joined British Equity, because there was already a Mark Chapman in the union. However, he portrayed Lennon in Chapter 27, a film about Mark David Chapman, released in 2007 at the Sundance Film Festival.

Formado en el teatro clásico, Chapman se inició en telvisión en 1983 (con la edad de 29 años) interpretando, para la cadena londinense BBC, la obra de William Shakespeare, Macbeth. Pero como en su Inglaterra natal no encontró las oportunidades esperadas, el actor decidió emigrar a los Estados Unidos para aparecer en populares series nortamericanas como Annihilator o Se ha escrto un crimen. Después de foguearse como actor televisivo, dio el salto a la gran pantalla con un pequeño papel en la pelicula de John Hough, Escondete y tiembla (1987).
