Maren Bennewitz studied computer science at the University of Bonn. From 1999 to 2004, she was a PhD student in the research group for autonomous intelligent systems at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg headed by Wolfram Burgard. In 2004, she received the Wolfgang-Gentner PhD Award. From 2004 to 2008, she was a member of the humanoid robots lab at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg which she heads since October 2008. From 2005 to 2007, Maren Bennewitz was a member of RoboCup team NimbRo which participated in the Humanoid KidSize league. After having been finalist in 2005 and 2006, NimbRo became world champion in the Humanoid KidSize league in 2007.
