Marcus Clarke is an English actor, puppeteer, and writer who has also been BAFTA nominated for his script editing work. He is a native of Nottingham. After working in the West End Theatre for several years, he played the part of Audrey II in the West End musical Little Shop of Horrors, and subsequently worked as a puppeteer on the film version. Marcus also performed puppets for the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

After successfully completing a Jim Henson’s Puppeteering for Television course, he worked on several of Henson's productions, including Monster Maker, The Storyteller, The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island. Clarke's company, Hands Up Puppets, which was set up in Nottingham in 1989 to 'Create Puppet characters for Television,' has been involved with more than sixty UK children's TV series, both making the Puppets and Puppeteering the main characters. Beginning with UK TV Favourites of Hotdog, Dappledown Farm, Tricky Business and Top Banana to the recently airing SMarteenies (CBeebies)and currently airing Tickle, Patch and Friends, Milkshake Show, The Softies and the Milky and Shake Show (see Milkshake on Five TV) with Clarke often working as both a writer and performer. Marcus has also worked extensively in the field of Real Time Performance animation. Puppeteering or 'animating in real time' computer generated characters primarily with the Paris based company Medialab. In 1997 he helped set up Medialab Studio LA. Training Puppeteers to Real Time animate and performing characters himself, including Donkey Kong, for exhibition. He also worked on several TV Shows in LA for NBC, Fox and others. In 2006, Clarke performed in the Jim Henson Company's improv puppet stage show, Puppet Up! Returning to Live performance at the Fringe in 2007 he wrote and performed 'Marcus Clarke is the Puppet Maker' an Adult Comedy Stand Up Show. It experimented with incorporating Puppets into conventional Stand up to create a combined novelty, cod ventriloquist Stand up Act. Recently he has been developing TV Puppetry Workshops, including TV Puppeteering Workshops which he delivers on a bespoke basis for Corporate and Educational customers and also in conjunction with his TV Puppetry Lectures which he has delivered to many UK Universities and Colleges. Marcus is currently (2009) 'Bookaboo,' Puppeteer and voice of Bookaboo, in the new hit Citv TV Series, 'Bookaboo' working with a wide variety of Celebrities. The Series first episode featuring Meatloaf. This year 2009 Marcus's Film 'Clayfield House' 24 minutes, which he Produced, Directed and Performs in, has been entered for a Koestler Award. Clayfields House is a secure Children's home in Nottinghamshire. The young people there have protected identities. Marcus taught the young people to Puppeteer and using the Puppets they talk about being in Clayfields.
