Mapatumumab is a human monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of cancer. This drug was discovered by Cambridge Antibody Technology and Human Genome Sciences, Inc. as a result of the collaboration between the two companies in 1999 which would exploit CAT's phage display technology. Early work by CAT and HGS scientists indicated that HGS-ETR1 induced cell death in multiple tumour types both in vitro and in vivo.
