Majlis Bahasa Indonesia-Malaysia (MBIM, Language Council of Indonesia-Malaysia) which was formed in 29 December 1972, after a Pernyataan Bersama was being signed by the late Tun Hussein Onn who was the Education Minister of Malaysia and Bapak Mashuri Saleh S.H. who was the Education and Cultural Minister of Indonesia on 23 May 1972 in Jakarta. MBIM became MABBIM when Brunei joined this council on 4 November 1985. Singapore remains as an observer until today.
