- Mahjong solitaire is a solitaire matching game that uses a set of Mahjong tiles rather than cards. It is also known as Shanghai solitaire, electronic or computerized mahjong, MahJong solitaire, solitaire Mahjong and, erroneously, as Mahjong. The tiles come from the four-player game popular in East Asia known as Mahjong. The 144 tiles are arranged in a special four-layer pattern with their faces upwards. A tile is said to be open or exposed if it can be moved either left or right without disturbing other tiles. The goal is to match open pairs of identical tiles and remove them from the board, exposing the tiles under them for play. The game is finished when all pairs of tiles have been removed from the board or when there are no exposed pairs remaining. (Although some implementations, e.g. GNOME Mahjongg, offer to shuffle the tiles when there are no exposed pairs remaining; letting you almost always be able to "win" the game. ) Mahjong solitaire can be played using genuine tiles and a special wooden frame for set-up. Usually though, it is played in an electronic form as a computer game. This removes the tedium of set-up and the temptation to cheat. Some electronic Mahjong solitaire games offer extra options, such as (1) changing the tile set and patterns from the traditional tiles to flowers, jewels or other items that may be easier to match up at a glance, (2) playing a series of different layouts with varying levels of difficulty, or (3) adding "wildcard tiles" and other tiles that have special functions. These games also have an optional time limit. They may also offer hints/cheat options such as the ability to have a match found for the player or to backtrack and undo already made moves. Additionally, most implementations of the game arrange the tiles in such a way that the game is solvable in at least one way. Mahjong solitaire can be played either solo or with a partner, in which case the aim is to accumulate the most pairs, to be the last one to match a pair, or to score the most points. Points are gained for each pair removed, with bonus points for removing matched pairs in sequence or removing pairs in sequence that are parts of sets. Using traditional mahjong tiles, the sets include the dragons, the flowers, the seasons, and the winds (with the winds being worth the most bonus points). Players should open up new tiles with every pair they eliminate. Choosing obvious pairs from the top levels will often end the game prematurely (i.e. lose) by leaving essential tiles under cover.

È un solitario ad accoppiamento: si accumulano le tessere tipiche del gioco a faccia in su, per formare un monte (la tartaruga), e si eliminano le tessere individuando coppie di tessere identiche. Alcune tessere sono nascoste dagli strati superiori, altre sono visibili ma bloccate: solo le tessere libere possono essere accoppiate. Il solitario è stato reso famoso dalle sue implementazioni per computer: nel suo ambito è diventato un classico, tanto da oscurare l'omonimo gioco da tavolo, che pure grazie alla diffusione asiatica è uno dei più giocati al mondo. Le tessere reali hanno il dorso leggermente curvo (sono realizzate in bambù) e mal si prestano ad essere impilate: tuttavia esiste una versione "non per computer", dove viene fornita una scatola particolare che aiuta a sistemare le tessere. Il solitario viene erroneamente indicato con il nome di Mahjong o Mah-Jong, mentre è conosciuto anche come Shanghai solitaire, electronic or computerized mahjong, MahJong solitaire, solitaire Mahjong. Spesso viene indicato con nomi realitivi a particolari implementazioni: Shanghai Solitaire, Taipei, Kyodai. Il nome The Turtle(la tartaruga), come risulta dal libro "Lucky That Way" di Brad Fregger, citato dal creatore del gioco Brodie Lockard. Esistono anche versioni per palmare, per smartphone e console videogiochi portatili.
- 『上海』（シャンハイ）は、パズルゲーム。積み上げられた麻雀牌の山から、ある一定のルールに従って牌を取り除いていくというもの。米国・アクティビジョン社が開発し、1986年にMacintoshでリリース。翌1987年にPC-9801などの国産パソコンやファミリーコンピュータ・PCエンジンで発売され、広く知られるようになった。1989年に発売されたsystem soft社版「上海」ではオープニング画面で「SHANGHAI the ancient Chinese game of Mah-jongg」と表示され、あたかも中国に古くからあるゲームであるかのように装っていたが、このゲームは実際には「Mahjong solitaire」とも呼ばれるソリティアの一種である。 日本では2001年よりサン電子が総代理店に指定されている。
- Madżong, Mahjong (jednoosobowy) – popularna gra, pochodząca z Chin, w której zadaniem gracza jest usuwanie par jednakowych płytek z planszy, aż do całkowitego jej oczyszczenia. Usuwać w parach można jednak tylko płytki, które nie są zablokowane, tzn. żadna inna płytka nie znajduje się bezpośrednio powyżej usuwanej (nawet częściowo) oraz z lewej lub prawej strony nie ma sąsiada (innej płytki). Wszystkie płytki biorące udział w grze występują w czterech egzemplarzach poza płytkami z dwóch specjalnych grup, które występują po jednym egzemplarzu, wobec czego można je usuwać w dowolnych kombinacjach (dowolne dwie płytki z grupy stanowią poprawną parę). Pełny zestaw płytek do gry madżong liczy 144 płytki. Istnieją również gry komputerowe oparte na zasadach madżonga, z których najpopularniejsza to Kyodai Mahjongg.

- 簡而清（1927年9月2日－2000年9月11日），香港出生，籍貫廣東番禺。香港作家，評馬人。 簡而清父母是越南華僑，因在家中九兄弟排行第八，因此有簡老八的稱號。簡而清在中國抗日戰爭時期長大，小學畢業後，便依靠自學，跟隨兄長學習英文。簡而清曾患上肺癆，但其後治癒。 簡而清的知識廣博，範圍廣泛，對賭博亦甚有研究。他曾寫過小說、散文、在《明報》寫專欄，做過食評人、影評人，亦曾從事麻將研究。由於懂得英文，早年亦曾任報章馬評人。簡而清家中藏書超過8萬冊。 簡而清曾經拍過電影，包括1983年與鍾楚紅，董驃合作演出的《田雞過河》。近年亦拍過《易經性經簡而清》DVD。 1980年代中期，當時電腦技術仍未普及於打印中文字，簡而清曾與中國內地生產商合作製成一部用筆描繪漢字的手提中文打字機，這在當年的技術來說，是科技上一個很大的突破。 1997年與比他年輕37年的菲律賓籍女管家結婚。簡而清承認曾注射人胎素保持青春，2000年7月再度前往四川成都接受人胎素注射，但在注射療程期間發現患上末期肝癌，其後病情惡化，至2000年9月11日在重慶病逝。 簡而清與前妻育有一女簡欲靜，她曾任香港貿易發展局華北、東北首席代表。
