David Schlesinger, Direktor für Open-Source-Technologien bei ACCESS, dem Unternehmen, das die Rechte an dem Quelltext von BeOS hält, äußerte, eine solche Offenlegung würde eine unerlaubte Veröffentlichung eines abgeleiteten Werks darstellen und erklärte zudem, weder yellowTAB noch Bernd Korz hätten jemals eine Lizenz für die Verwendung des BeOS-Quelltextes besessen. ZETA n'est donc pas au final un BeOS dépoussiéré mais un vrai système tout à fait utilisable pour la plupart des tâches personnelles et quotidiennes, grâce à la disponibilité de Mozilla Firefox, VLC, Nvu et d'autres applications tirées du monde libre. Certains logiciels commerciaux comme le magnifique WonderBrush, Pixel, SoundPlay ou Zenebona donnent une dimension toute autre aux possibilités de l'ensemble, sans pouvoir encore concurrencer un Windows XP avec la suite Adobe ou Macromedia, ou des logiciels comme Avid DV ou FinalCut sous Mac OS X. Certains projets en cours sont de grands intérêts, d'un point de vue système avec l'arrivée prochaine des comptes utilisateurs ou le passage au compilateur GCC 4, comme d'un point de vue logiciel avec le portage actuel par la société YellowTAB d'OpenOffice. org 2, venant remplacer le vieillissant Gobe Productive 2 (bien qu'il soit désormais localisé).
