  • Mac-on-Linux (kurz MOL) ist eine Open-Source-Virtualisierungs-Software unter der GPL, die auf LinuxPPC-basierten Linux-Systemen das Apple-Betriebssystem Mac OS oder Mac OS X virtualisiert. Dieser Emulator verwandelt z. B. einen Pegasos-Rechner in einen Macintosh-Clone. Im Gegensatz zu den meisten anderen Mac-Emulatoren wird kein funktionierendes ROM-Image eines Mac-Rechners benötigt. Hierbei handelt es sich nicht um einen klassischen Emulator, sondern um eine sogenannte virtuelle Maschine. Dies bedeutet, dass ein Original-Mac-Betriebssystem geladen wird und nicht wie bei einem klassischen Emulator der Anwendungssoftware nur vorgetäuscht wird, sie liefe auf einem Mac-Betriebssystem.

Actualmente se encuentra en fase Alpha y solo sirve para ejecutar una máquina virtual en la que instalar MacOS X de modo experimental, pero se espera que en el futuro se pueda realizar el efecto contrario de Mac On Linux, esto es, ejecutar una versión de Linux sobre MacOS X como si de una aplicación más se tratara. Todo esto sólo es aplicable sobre máquinas PowerPC, ya que no se requiere emulación de plataforma. Para ejecutarlo sobre plataforma Intel, se precisa de un emulador PPC como puede ser PearPC.
