Mạc Đăng Dung was a king of Vietnam and the founder of the Mac Dynasty. Previously a captain of the imperial guard (Praetorian Prefect equivalent) of one of the Le Dynasty kings, he gradually rose to a position of great power. Mạc eventually deposed the last Le king and became king himself.

  • 莫太祖（Mạc Thái Tổ，1483年？－1541年）名讳莫登庸（Mạc Đăng Dung），是越南莫朝開國君主。先祖為中國廣東移民，父名莫萍，乃陳朝狀元莫挺之後裔。 莫登庸是宜陽古齋人，自小從事漁業，長大後，以健壯成為勇士。在襄翼皇帝時，他被封都指揮使，仕襄翼皇帝、昭宗神皇帝、恭皇帝三朝。 恭皇帝在位時，莫登庸晉陞太師仁國公，再於統元六年(1527年封為安興王。 1527年4月，莫登庸迫恭皇帝禪位，成立莫朝，改元明德，恭皇帝被廢為泰王。莫登庸怕生變亂，因此一切遵守後黎朝的法度。可是大多數後黎朝功臣子孫多逃竄或隱姓埋名，又或者聚眾成匪。 明德三年（1529年），他以年老讓位給兒子莫登瀛，稱自已為太上皇，居於祥光殿，以釣魚自娛。 他死後廟號太祖，諡號高皇帝，葬安陵（An Lăng）。
