LyricWiki rühmt sich zwar im Unterschied zu anderen Liedtextseiten den Nutzer nicht mit Reklame zu überfluten, hat jedoch mittlerweile ebenfalls Werbeeinblendungen auf allen Seiten. Über eine SOAP-Schnittstelle kann mit externen Programmen direkt auf die Datenbank zugegriffen und diese manipuliert werden. Programme wie Winamp, Amarok, Windows Media Player, musikCube, foobar2000 unterstützen das Abrufen von Liedtexten zum gespielten Musikstück entweder von Haus aus oder per nachinstallierbarem Zusatzmodul. Seit dem 3. August stehen, aufgrund von Beschwerden von Seiten der Musikindustrie, über die API keine Lyrics mehr zur Verfügung, weshalb viele auf LyricWiki basierenden Programme seitdem nicht mehr funktionieren.
