- Lupen Crook is an British singer-songwriter, musician and Artist who has been part of the underground folk scene since 2004. Based in Chatham, Kent, Lupen began to play live locally at venues such as The Tap 'N' Tin. In the summer of 2004 a 3 track CD was given to Dean Fragile who was A&R for tap'n'tin records by a friend of Dean's called Sam Hayes, the three tracks was recorded on a Fisher-Price tape player and contained the first versions of the songs 'Matilda V' 'Staghead & Monster' and 'Lucky 6'. The CD cover was handmade and was coloured in using Lupen's girlfriend's makeup. Dean called the phone number on the CD that same day and discovered that he was an old schoolfriend. Later that year he signed a record deal to Tap n Tin Records who he has released two albums, 3 EPs and numerous singles under. The first official release of Crook's career was the Petals Fresh From Roadkill EP, 500 limited copies were hand painted by Lupen himself. He followed this with Halloween and Love 80. His debut album, Accidents Occur Whilst Sleeping was released on June 24, 2006 and gained critical acclaim from NME and The Fly. The second single to be taken from the album was A Silver Boot For Sam, released in October of the same year. During the course of recording the first album, Lupen Crook met brothers Tom and Bob Langridge. Iscariot the ladder was Lupen's second album, though first to bear the new title Lupen Crook and the Murderbirds. Another EP followed and numerous chaotic UK tours. Throughout this period the band experimented with many additional musicians. Free from all contractual obligations, January 2008 saw the three piece travel to New York. There they met Chicago born musician Craig Harff. Returning to England the band spent the remainder of 2008 writing and recording. Meanwhile Lupen Crook released a 10 track album Old books, broken bands, and other little Treasures. The as of yet untitled new album is planned for September 2009. Lupen Crook is also preparing to exhibit his artwork and release a collection of short stories that coincide with the release of the bands third album.
