Los del Río (Spanish for Those from the River, referring to the Guadalquivir or the Guadaira) is a Spanish music duo composed of musicians Antonio Romero Monge and Rafael Ruíz. They are originally from the city section of Dos Hermanas in Seville. As a duo, Romero and Ruiz have been a consistent, and persistent, act since the early 1960s. They had achieved considerable attention in southern Spain by the time "Macarena" was written, but not without experiencing some hardship beforehand.

However, in the summer of 1996, the duo enjoyed the success of their multi-platinum smash summer hit "Macarena", which sold over four million copies in the United States and spent a record 14 weeks at #1. This is the longest running #1 debut single in American music history. It was because of the lone success of this song that Los del Río is considered a one-hit wonder. The song was also featured prominently in many other countries and sold extremely well in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Ob in Stadien bei öffentlichen Musik- und Sportveranstaltungen, in der Dorfdisco oder auf Kindergeburtstagen und Hochzeiten - überall schlug man die Hände in einer bestimmten Abfolge, stemmte sie in die Hüften, drehte die Hüfte, ging in die Knie, um sich dann in einem Aufwärtsschwung seitwärts mit einem leichten Sprung um 90 Grad zu drehen. International bekannt ist die Szene, in der die US-Botschafterin und spätere Außenministerin Madeleine Albright vor einer UN-Sicherheitsratsitzung dem Botschafter Botswanas den Tanz beibringt. Selbst in deutschen Grundschulen wurde der Tanz offenbar als Teil der Musikpädagogik unterrichtet. Neben den Los-del-Río-Versionen konnten auch Los del Mar von dem Erfolg profitieren und sich zum Beispiel in Australien und Frankreich mit dem gleichen Titel hinter dem Original in den Top 5 einreihen. Zahlreiche gecoverte, übersetzte und Instrumentalversionen folgten und bis heute ist das Lied ein beliebter Stimmungshit. Für Los del Río war es erwartungsgemäß schwer, diesem Ausnahmeerfolg etwas folgen zu lassen. Eine Weihnachtsversion namens Macarena Christmas erreichte zwar zum Jahresausklang noch einmal die Charts, abgesehen davon waren sie aber ein internationales One-Hit-Wonder.
