Matt Dabbs left the band for family reasons during 2007. The band formed in Manchester in 2002 and built its reputation with several appearances at the Night and Day Cafe. Longview subsequently signed to 14th Floor Recordings. Their debut album, Mercury, was released in July 2003. Several singles were released from the album including their best known song, "Further", which featured on One Tree Hill. Notable other releases include a cover of Depeche Mode's "Stripped" which was only available as a digital download or on limited edition vinyl, and "In a Dream". Although the band had played a handful of concerts during 2007, a second album did not appear. In January 2008 Longview played a series of intimate gigs in which new tracks "History", "Loss", "Fires" and "Why" were available to fans. At the London show on 26 March 2008, McVey announced the band would be entering the studio in April to record the next album, which has yet to be released. In May, the official website announced eleven tour dates between August and October.
