La chaîne Long John Silver's a été acquise par le groupe agroalimentaire Tricon Global Restaurants le 7 Mai 2002 suite à l'acquisition de Yorkshire Global Restaurants (Long John Silver's, A&W). Suite à cette acquisition, le groupe change de nom pour devenir Yum! Brands, Inc.. Aujourd'hui, Long John Silver's compte plus de 1200 restaurants à travers le monde. La chaîne doit son nom à l'un des personnages principaux du roman intitulé L'île aux trésors écrit par Robert Louis Stevenson.
