Livadeia is a city in central Greece. It is the capital of the prefecture Boeotia. Levadia is located 130 km NW of Athens, E of Nafpaktos, ESE of Amfissa and Desfina, SE of Lamia and west of Chalkida. Livadeia is linked with GR-48 and several kilometres west of GR-3. The area around Livadeia are mountainous while farmlands are mainly in valley areas. Levadia's industry are urban and rural in the outskirts. It is also home to Levadiakos FC who are in the Super League Greece.

Das Gemeindegebiet umfasst vorwiegend die Stadt Livadia in der Ebene des Flusses Erkina. Es erstreckt sich aber auch nach Süden mit einem schmalen Ausläufer bis an den Golf von Korinth. Westlich bzw. südwestlich von Livadia liegt das Parnassos-Massiv.

Croesus wilde weten of er een kans bestond op het verslaan van de Perzen, mocht hij tegen hen ten strijde trekken. Wat het orakel antwoordde vertelt de geschiedenis niet (bij Herodotus, boek 1, 46). Het orakel heeft lang bestaan (tot in de 2e eeuw n. Chr); op de locatie zelf stond o.a. een beeld van de Griekse beeldhouwer Praxiteles. Lebadeia speelde een rol in de zogenaamde Boeotische Bond, een stedenverband dat tussen 446 v. Chr. en - met een tweetal lange onderbrekingen - 146 v. Chr een tegenwicht bood tegen de andere, machtiger steden van Griekenland, o.a. Athene en Korinthe. Het bevond zich waar nu het huidige Livadeia ligt.
