- Il violinista è un musicista che suona il violino. I violinisti-compositori erano molto frequenti nel periodo barocco. Qualche volta si può riconoscere un violinista da un segno rosso sul lato sinistro del suo collo. Questo è dovuto al lungo periodo durante il quale il musicista tiene il suo violino appoggiato appunto sul collo, sul lato sinistro. Per muovere con disinvoltura il braccio sinistro, che egli usa per premere le corde, il violino è trattenuto solo dal collo del musicista e dalla sua spalla. Tuttavia alcuni musicisti lo sorreggono anche con la loro mano sinistra. Molti violinisti si avviano alla carriera di musicista in età molto giovane.
