The Empress of the Eastern/Byzantine Empire (in exile) was the consort of one of the four Greek successors state of the Byzantine Emperors, following the Fourth Crusade in 1204 and the Fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks in 1453, to the abolishment of those states. As all male spouses of the former Byzantine Empire had to be monarchs also, there was never a Byzantine Emperor consort. They are the successors of Margaret of Hungary or Eudokia Angelina, the last true Byzantine Empresses.
