This is a list of divided islands. The vast majority of islands in the world are either countries in their own right; part of a state consisting of multiple islands, often archipelagos, such as the islands of Japan and Indonesia; or outlying possessions of a state with a fixed "mainland", such as Sicily, Isla de los Estados and Hong Kong Island. This list comprises of those few islands whose land is divided between two or more countries or territories by an international border.
