This is the list of the Presidents of the Italian Republic with the title Presidente della Repubblica since 1948. The Quirinal Palace (known in Italian as the Quirinale) in Rome is the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic. The eleven Presidents came from only five Regions: three from Campania (all born in Naples) and Piedmont, two from Sardinia (both born in Sassari) and Tuscany, and one from Liguria.

In Italia non è previsto, sempre a norma della Carta costituzionale, l'istituto della vicepresidenza, né è prevista la supplenza. In caso di impedimento del presidente della Repubblica, il presidente del Senato è chiamato ad esercitarne le funzioni (Art. 86). L'inclusione dei presidenti del senato facenti funzione nella lista dei presidenti della Repubblica - estensione la cui pratica per qualche ragione si è diffusa nel mondo anglosassone - è pertanto del tutto impropria.
